MLA London receives funding to extend Skilled for Health

MLA London is delighted to announce we have received an extension of funding until March 2009 to continue our successful Skilled for Health project.  The extension has been negotiated with ContinYou, who oversee the national Skilled for Health programme on behalf of the Department of Health (DH) and the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS).

LB Tower Hamlets launched the London pilot of the Government's 'Find Your Talent' initiative on Tuesday 23 September at the V&A Museum of Childhood.  Find Your Talent is a government initiative that will give children and their families more opportunities to take part in cultural activities, both in and out of school time.

On Tuesday library users and staff from libraries across London were met by Bill Rammell, Minister for Lifelong Learning at an event in central London to celebrate the Skilled for Health project which has been taking place in five boroughs.

Statement on restructuring

At its meeting on Thursday 22 May the Board of MLA London approved the details of the new organisational structure and budget for 2008-9, following a staff consultation on proposed redundancies.

 

As a result of the reduction in its core grant by 25%, MLA Council, the Government's agency for museums, libraries and archives, is reconfiguring its regional operations outside London. MLA London will be discussing its future governance model with MLA Council in the coming months.

New research looking at food and drink in museums, libraries and archives has found that catering facilities can be a valuable asset. The research, conducted by Visit London and commissioned by MLA London, found that venues generally need around 20,000 visits a year to justify extensive catering provision, and that special events are the most profitable form of catering.
