Renaissance in London is delivered through a partnership of museums that form the London Museums Hub together with MLA London, the strategic regional development agency for museums, libraries and archives.

The London Museums Hub

The London Museums Hub consists of a partnership between:

The London Museums Hub is the leading partner in Renaissance London, playing a key role in the development of a vibrant, diverse and sustainable museum sector.  It is working towards making the region's museums more relevant and enjoyable for everyone, ensuring that they participate in improving the quality of life for all Londoners.

To achieve this, the Hub is building on existing strengths within partner museums in order to develop a concentration of expertise within the sector.  This expertise is then disseminated to the regional museum community in order to deliver high quality museum services.

There is a similar partnership in each of the eight other English regions, established under the Renaissance programme which is funded through MLA, the Museums Libraries and Archives Council.

The Hub office

The central Hub office co-ordinates Hub programmes, supports joint working and ensures that there is good communication with the wider museum community and external stakeholders.

The Hub is also funding four shared posts which relate to key specialist areas: ICT, Records and Information Management, Volunteer Management and Collections Development. They act as a shared resource for the Hub museums and provide specialist advice to the wider museum community via the Museum Development Officer's (MDOs) Network.

MLA London

MLA London is the strategic regional development agency for museums, libraries and archives.  The Hub works in partnership with MLA London to ensure that the benefits of Hub projects are widespread and sustainable. Joint planning with MLA London via the Programme Management Groups ensures that the Hub's project programme addresses regional strategic priorities, suitable partners for our projects are identified, and best practice across the wider museum community is disseminated.  The Hub has also collaborated closely in the production of Museum Metropolis, MLA London's museums strategy. To view the Museums Strategy click here

MLA London is also responsible for the Museum Development Fund, a Renaissance fund for non Hub museums.
