Downloadable documents

This MLA London site includes a number of downloadable documents. Most of these are available in two file formats - Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF) and Rich Text Format (RTF). To help you to decide which version to download you may find it helpful to refer to the following information.
  • Portable Document Format (PDF)

PDF's are widely used on websites as they download more quickly than other formats and retain the original document formatting, images, maps, graphics etc. However, in order to read a PDF document you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader software installed on your computer. This software is available free of charge from the Adobe website.

If you are using text to speech software to access this website, you may have problems using PDF files. The access.adobe.com website provides tools and information to help make Adobe PDF files accessible to users with visual disabilities.

The Adobe Acrobat website also features a troubleshooting section to help you if you are having problems reading Acrobat PDF documents in your browser. If you still have problems, please contact the MLA London Webmaster.
  • Rich Text Format (RTF)

Documents saved in the RTF can be read using most current word-processing software. However, RTF files may not retain original formatting and layout and will not include images. RTF files may also be larger than PDFs resulting in slower download times.
Many of the documents provided on this website in both PDF and RTF versions are typically larger than simple text files. For this reason, whichever format is used, download times can be lengthy if you have a slow connection or modem. The file size of each PDF and RTF document will be displayed next to its title.

Standards

This site has been designed to reflect website design guidelines recommended by the World Wide Web Consortium and adhere to the standards set out in the Guidelines for UK Government websites and e-Government Interoperability Framework (eGIF), which is mandatory for all public sector bodies.
